一、教学目标与要求:

At the end of the class, the students will be able to

1. Knowledge object:

Students can master the words and useful expressions such as sunny, snowy, cloudy, hailing, foggy, lightning and thunder, windy, drizzly, raining heavily.

2. Ability object:

Students can talk about different kinds of weather by using the words and expressions above.

3.  Moral object:

Students can adapt to the changing weather and keep their good mood.

1. Students can understand the words and expressions about weather, they can talk about the weather freely

2. How to improve the students oral English

Step 1. Lead-in and greeting

First get the students to have daily report.

According to the daily report and ask some questions.

Have a dictation.

Step2. Lead-in

 (show some pictures about weather)

Free Talk:  Whats the weather like today?

          Do you like it? Why or why not?   

Students answer the questions together.

 Text : Warm-up, Listening and Speaking A (p.108)

Warm-up

Activity1: Look at the pictures and match them with the weather conditions in the box.

Sunny  cloudy  foggy  windy  drizzly

Snowy  hailing  lightning and thunder  raining heavily

(Students look at the pictures above and discuss the questions with their partners together, then give their answers.)

 

Activity2: Put the weather conditions above into the four season groups.

In spring:_______________________

In summer:_____________________

In autumn:______________________

In winter:_______________________

Step 3 Listening and Speaking(A)

Activity1:Ask the students to act out the two situations.

Situation1: You are going to see a movie with Jim tomorrow, but the weather forecast said that it will be rain tomorrow, then you explain to Tom the reason why you cant go to the cinema.

Situation 2: Linda wants to go shopping with you this afternoon, but it is hot today and you dont want to go with her.

(Encourage the students to act it out and to be bold to speak and ask the students to talk something about the weather, use the words they learned)

 

Activity2: Listen to the conversation between Sue and Billy. What will the weather be like this afternoon? Tick your answer.

(Ask the students to write down the words they heard about the weather, such as rain, fog, wind, foggy, clear and so on)

Act the dialogues in pairs and try to explain the important phrases.

Go through the usful expressions:

Asking about the weather

Possible responses

Whats the weather like ?

Its sunny/cloudy/rainy/snowy/windy/warm/hot/dry.

How is the weather?

Its going to be fine tomorrow.

What does the weather forecast?

It looks as if it is going to rain.

What  it like outside?

It seems to clear up.

Whats the temperature?

Its terrible outside.

How cold is it?

Its seven degrees below zero.

A lovely day, isnt it?

A lovely day indeed.

 

Activity3: Underline the sentences talking about different weather conditions in the conversation.

Check the answers.

Activity 4: Ask students to fill the blank about a communication.

Step 3 Grammar

Get the students to gothrough the grammar:Infinitive

 Pay attention:

 动词不定式的否定: not +to+动词原形

Eg. They decided not to go anywhere during the holiday.

   他们决定假期哪里都不去。

 动词不定时的被动式:to be +过去分词

Eg. There is still some work to be done.

   还有一些工作没做完。

 动词不定式做主语时常用it做形式主语。

Eg. To finish the work in a week is very hard.

   It is very hard to finish the work in a week.

   在一周内完成这项工作很困难。

 动词不定时做定语时放在所修饰的名词或代词后。所修饰的名词如果是地点,工具等,则应有相应的介词。

Eg. He found a good house to live in.

他找到了一座很好的住房。

Activity1: Underline the infinitives in the two diaries.

Check the answers.

Activity2: Complete the following jokes with the given words.(page117)

(Students can discuss it with their partners, and give their answers)

Check the answers together.

Do some exercises about infinitive.

Step5  Homework :

1. Exercises in part 1 in unit 7.

2. Copy the new words and phrases.

3. Do translation exercises.

4. Finish the exercises in the workbook.

5. Remember words and expressions.

6. Make a dialogue with the useful sentence.
