1.1 Identify the sales or operational need for product information

1.1 Identify the sales or operational need for product information

Different sectors of the Tourism industry will have varying product needs.  Some information will be required to be able to sell the product effectively, other operational information such as payment terms or specific client information may be required to comply with booking conditions of the product.  This information will vary widely across all the sectors of the industry and tourism personnel must ensure they know where to access this information so they are able to ensure clients are given correct information.

 

Product offerings within the Tourism industry may include:-

 


· accommodation

· activities

· convention facilities

· cruises

· currency and banking services

· entertainment

· entrance to attractions or sites

· event management services

· food, beverage and catering

· functions

· meals

· meeting or event equipment

· speaker services

· special event consumable items

· special events

· special items with customer’s corporate branding

· technical equipment and services:

audio-visual

pyrotechnics

rigging

sound and lighting

special effects

stage design and construction

venue styling

· tour guiding services

· tours

· transfers

· transportation

· travel insurance

· vehicle rental

· venue facilities.


 

Product information to assist in sales might include:-

 

· Access to product suppliers secure online booking system, brochures and website

· Products available for each destination

· Products suited to this client type

· Personal knowledge of the destination and/or products

· Current prices

· Current specials

· An understanding of product features and benefits

· Training in how to access Tourism products

· Training in itinerary planning and scheduling

· Knowledge of booking procedures for numerous operators

 

Operational information may include:-

 

· Deposit requirement

· Final payment requirements

· Cancellation fees

· Any specific terms and conditions

· Timetable and schedule information

· How to issue documentation

· How payment is required by supplier

· Specifics in regard to venue hiring, and capabilities etc.

 

You require this information to be able to perform tasks such as:-

· booking a supplier service for the customer

· hiring of special equipment

· issuing: air tickets; crew documentation, e.g. operational or technical itineraries

· customer documentation for travel, tourism, hospitality or event products

· planning functions

· preparing quotations

· process and monitoring event registrations

· process financial transactions

· provide specific product information and advice for; destinations, food and beverage, events and functions

· provide advice on customer use of new technologies

· provide specific information and advice about the credentials of the tourism operator in minimising negative environmental, social and cultural impacts
