Teaching Goals and Suggested Teaching Process
Part One
Teaching Goals
Upon completion of this unit, teachers are expected to have enabled students to:
■ have a thorough understanding of the text contextually and linguistically;
■ build up their vocabulary about how the experience of overseas study may differ from that in China, and know how to use the key words and expressions in context properly;
■ understand the criteria used by admissions officers and those used by students when they select foreign institutions of higher education to apply to;
■ discuss the pros and cons of studying abroad;
■ get familiar with the writing of an application letter.
Part Two
Suggested Teaching Process
This unit is designed for six to eight class hours/periods. In each of the periods, certain tasks are to be completed. Generally speaking, there may be several ways to explore this unit. Here is a suggested teaching plan.

注:因为Opener和Reading & Comprehending均从“留学生”这个群体的层面来讨论海外留学,而Reading & Interacting注重的是某留学生的个体体验,所以建议从群体切入,然后深潜到个人。此外,在教授主课文之前,请学生查找作者赵轶璐的简历、The Odyssey和The Aeneid里的著名故事。
